About In His Own Words
In His Own Words Cover Art In His Own Words (IHOW) is an aesthetic experience in which the listener hears the message of the Word proclaimed through both singing and narration. Both the narrative and lyric texts draw exclusively from the words of Christ. The musical composition consists of nine choral pieces, each intersected by underscored narratives and interludes. The various texts within the work are tied together thematically by the use of “I am” phrases : “I am the Way, the Truth, the Life, the Resurrection, the Good Shepherd, the Bread of Life”, etc.  
Versatile Choral Music
 

One of the unique things about In His Own Words is that there are no choral books. Instead, you get all nine IHOW choral pieces in a discounted anthem bundle for $9.50. This gives you the flexibility to perform these anthems over and over again individually as opposed to having them bound together in a choral book.  To buy these anthems individually would cost $13.50, so it’s a significant (30%) savings.

If you want to perform IHOW as a complete work, then you also need to purchase the director/accompanist/narrator edition which comes in a spiral-bound 8.5 X 11 format.  This format makes it easy to lay flat on a music stand or piano and is also larger than the standard anthem size (a real life-saver for senior-adult choir members).  This edition containsall of the choral music, underscores, narrations, as well as director's notes and suggestions.

Adaptable Orchestration
  A unique feature of the IHOW orchestration is that it can be played with a full orchestra or a chamber orchestra. When using a chamber group, the Organ Supplemental Edition ($50) supplements a smaller string section and also replaces the trumpet, trombone, and tuba parts in the full orchestra score. This allows the same parts, from the full orchestral score, to be used as a smaller ensemble.

About the Recording
  The In His Own Words recording features a performance by the University of Sioux Falls Chorale. The Chorale premiered the nine choral pieces at their 2006 Spring Concert. Two weeks later, they participated in the recording session. The orchestration was programmed by Dan throughout the summer and into the fall of that year. Once the score was recorded, Dan then mixed and mastered the entire project. In mid-December of 2006, the CD was officially released.
